Retail brands in Belgium.
For every network, how much of the population it actually reaches — which is a far more telling figure than a store count, and the only one that lets you compare two chains of different sizes, or the same chain either side of a border.

The networks most widely spread .
Share of the population living within 5 kilometres of a location. The 10 km radius that structures the French pages does not work here: across these fifteen networks it only spans 93.4 % to 99.7 % — it has stopped telling them apart. At 5 km the gap runs from 72.8 % to 95.1 %, and the ranking becomes readable again.
Retail by provinces .
Population of each province and number of networks present there with at least two locations. Population is summed from the same grid that feeds the coverage figures: one denominator for the whole country.

Present in France, absent from Belgium .
Retail networks with at least 150 locations in France whose brand and parent group are both absent from this country's record. This is the reading a development director is after: not an inventory of a market they know, but the list of those not yet in it. The threshold excludes regional chains, and the group filter avoids declaring absent a brand that operates here under another name.
Absence from the record is not proof of absence from the market: a brand may operate here under a local name, or be too recent for the source to describe. Brand pages linked here are in French.
What these figures do and do not say .
The chain
- Locations — Foursquare Open Places, filtered to the country, de-duplicated at 200 metres per brand.
- Brands — a reference curated country by country. French patterns are not inherited: applied blind, they credited the French Red Cross with 65 locations in Luxembourg, where the operator is in fact the Luxembourg Red Cross.
- Population — Kontur H3 grid (November 2023), 11,787,187 inhabitants, the same grid for coverage and for provinces.
- Recorded — .
The limit, not yet quantified
This country has not yet been calibrated: its recorded counts have not been confronted with the network sizes brands publish. Where the measurement has been made, the ratio departs from 1 in both directions and varies from one network to the next — there is no single factor that would correct the whole.
These figures therefore serve to rank and compare networks against each other — presence, absence, hierarchy, relative reach. They are not a store count, and this page does not present them as one.
Put up to three networks on the same map — location by location, population covered at the radius you choose, weight by province and opening rhythm. The tool's country selector is set to Belgium.
